History
At the end of the 19th century, Salamanca lacked a proper covered market for food sales. In 1899, the City Council launched a competition for the construction of a new market, with the design awarded to architect Joaquín de Vargas y Aguirre. Construction began that same year, facing several delays due to economic difficulties, and culminated with the official inauguration on April 15, 1909.
